Smok has been the go-to for mid-tier and starter vape products for quite a long time now. Products like the Smok Rigel show why they are still an easy recommendation for people looking to get into vaping and more experienced consumers alike. ‏

This is a lower budget product, so obviously there ‏ ‏are‏ ‏ better vapes and kits out there on the market for those able to spend more money, but the Rigel is still a solid choice for anyone looking to grab a new vape while keeping the price low.‏

The Specs‏

‏The Smok Rigel is a variable power vape, meaning it can be adjusted via the built-in TFT display screen. It ranges anywhere from 1-230 Watts or 1-8.2 Volts, depending on your preferred setting. ‏

It’s built to handle atomizers with a lower end of 0.1 ohms up to 2.5 ohms. This covers most standard and properly built atomizers in the mainstream, though if you’re building your own then make sure to keep it within this range. ‏

The connector is an industry-standard 510 connector with gold caps, nothing special there but it does mean that it’s not a proprietary device. You can replace the tank with basically any other that will fit a 510, which leaves a ton of room for upgrades. ‏

Dual 18650 batteries, which are ‏ ‏not‏ ‏ included, power this device and it has a USB-C quick charging port as well, so no need for an external battery charger. Battery life here is pretty long with those two 18650’s, at least as long as they are properly cared for.‏

There are a few safety features as well, such as battery level and heat warnings, as well as an 8-second cut off, though that can be a bit of a pain depending on your preferred draw technique.‏

What’s Included?‏

‏This kit includes the Smok Rigel device, which should be apparent, but it also includes several extras, most notably a TFV9 tank and coil set.‏

‏The TFV9 tank is a nice middle-of-the-pack glass tube atomizer with a 6.5 ml capacity and works with most standard 510-connections, like the one on the Rigel. It’s capable of good vape production and has an adjustable dual-slotted air-flow ring to help you hone in on the perfect hit.‏

It comes preinstalled with a .15 ohm coil and has a backup included. These last me anywhere from 1-2 weeks generally, pretty standard but can become annoying if you aren’t into building your coils.‏

I’m a fan of this tank for newer users as an introductory piece, but after a while, it tends to get pretty leaky around the O-ring. Replacing this fixes it for a time, but it’s tough weighing whether to do that or just going ahead and buying a more premium tank when the time comes.‏

‏Other extras in this kit include a replacement glass tube for the TFV9, a type-C USB cable, and --of course-- the user manual. Not too bad for the price.‏

My Take‏

‏Overall it’s a likable product. A device powered by 18650’s for this price feels like a steal, especially if you end up replacing the TFV9 in the future for a more leak-proof tank or drip system. ‏

I think with the low price and a large number of options for power output make this a solid all-arounder for someone looking to upgrade from a more basic vape model or just want a good backup device for day-to-day use. ‏

New users may be a bit intimidated by the digital screen and all the power options, but the learning curve isn’t particularly steep and it rarely really needs to be adjusted unless changing the atomizer set-up entirely.‏

All-in-all, it’s a good product for the money and should be considered if you’re on a budget.‏
